Kayak on the shore of an island

Killbear Provincial Park is one of my favourite places for front-country camping. I have gone to Killbear every year since I was born and I never run out of things to do there.

  1. Hiking
  2. Biking
  3. Kayaking/ canoeing/ paddleboarding
  4. Swimming/ beach day
  5. Cliff jumping
  6. Sunsets
  7. Interpretive center

Hiking

There are many places to Hike at Killbear. There are 3 marked trails aside from the bike and walking path. The longest is 3 KM. Killbear also has numerous trails that are unmarked. You can hike along the coast of Georgian Bay to many new beaches and spots to rest. There is also an unmarked route between Granite Saddle and Harolds Point that follows the shoreline.

Biking

There is a 7 KM bike trail that extends from the entrance of the park to Light House Point which is the furthest campground in Killbear. Aside from this path, people can also bike along the road outside the park to many other spots.

Kayaking/ Canoeing/ Paddle Boarding

I personally love kayaking and paddle boarding at Killbear. I try to pick a calm day to avoid large waves and sudden changes in wind direction. There are small islands accessible from Killbear that are beautiful to explore. You can oftentimes see different views and evidence of animals being there. I also love being able to kayak to shipwrecks to see the difference from year to year. If you have access to a motorized boat, you may have access to even more remote islands that have amazing views but be mindful of the rocks that can damage the boat under the water.

Swimming/ Beach Day

You can always take it easy when camping if you prefer. Killbear is beautiful for swimming with rocky or sandy floors and clear water. You can appreciate the sound of the water while relaxing or reading a book on the beach or you can pack a picnic to eat at the beach.

Cliff Jumping

I feel like many people go to Killbear for cliff jumping. There are specific rocks at Harolds Point that you can normally jump off of into the water. This can be a lot of fun and a little bit more adrenaline-pumping than some of the other activities. Before you do this activity make sure the area is safe and the water is high enough to avoid any injuries.

Sunsets

I have seen some of the most beautiful sunsets at Killbear. They have many lookouts that are great to see the sunset at different times of the year. They are also great to paint or photograph.

Interpretive Centre

As a child, I used to love going to the interpretive center to learn about the animals in the park then try to identify the animals I saw in nature. If the weather is bad and I am looking for an escape for a little bit I will still walk through to see what updated information they have there.

I would love to hear if you have any activities you enjoy at Killbear!
